Water Is Life

After oxygen water is the most scarce and valuable natural resource. The importance of water is not expressible. Life without water cannot be imagined, a basic human need. But it is sad to admit that we waste water and shortage of water will be a scary problem for human being. When we think water shortage perhaps we consider it a local problem in our town, city, region or in country. In deed it is global crisis.

The problem of water scarcity is a growing one. 2/3rd of earth is being surrounded by water, it is because the 2/3rd water around the earth is nothing but sea water which is either salty or frozen at northern region. The energy require for converting the sea water to drinking water is unbelievably huge and we right now can’t afford it.
"There is a water crisis today. But the crisis is not about having too little water to satisfy our needs. It is a crisis of managing water so badly that billions of people - and the environment - suffer badly."  World Water Vision Report
Water crisis increases with population growth. As populations grow, industrial, agricultural and individual water demands escalate. According to the World Bank, world-wide demand for water is doubling every 21 years, more in some regions. Water supply cannot remotely keep pace with demand.
Whatever the use of freshwater (agriculture, industry, domestic use), huge saving of water and improving of water management is possible. Almost everywhere, water is wasted, and as long as people are not facing water scarcity, they believe access to water is an obvious and natural thing. With urbanisation and changes in lifestyle, water consumption is bound to increase. However, changes in food habits may reduce the problem.

Every drop counts.
An awareness of the global water crisis should serve to put our own water concerns in perspective. There are a number of ways to save water, and they all start with you.
A list of things we can easily do to save water:
Saving water is very easy for everyone to do. When you save water, you save money on your utility bills too.
Wash fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap.
Use a broom instead of a hose to clean your driveway and sidewalk and save water every time.
Soak pots and pans instead of letting the water run while you scrape them clean.
Bathtime is no longer fun time. It wastes an unnecessary amount of water. an average shower uses 1/5 the amount of water that is needed for a bath!
Shorten your shower by a minute or two and you'll save up to 150 gallons per month.
Turn off the water while you wash your hair to save up to 150 gallons a month.
Turn off the water while you shave and save up to 300 gallons a month.
Try using a bucket instead. This will help you save about 150-200 liters everyday.
To save water and time, consider washing your face or brushing your teeth while in the shower.
When you are washing your hands, don't let the water run while you lather.
Don't let water run while shaving or washing your face. Brush your teeth first while waiting for water to get hot, then wash or shave after filling the basin.
Never put water down the drain when there may be another use for it such as watering a plant or garden, or cleaning.
Verify that your home is leak-free, because many homes have hidden water leaks.
Use your washing machine only when it is filled to its total capacity. You can save about 4500 litres per month in this process. Besides saving water, this method is also helpful to save electricity.
Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Dispose of tissues, insects and other such waste in the trash rather than the toilet.
Conserve water because it is the right thing to do. Don't waste water just because someone else is footing the bill such as when you are staying at a hotel.
Create an awareness of the need for water conservation among your children.
Try to do one thing each day that will result in a savings of water. Don't worry if the savings is minimal. Every drop counts. And every person can make a difference.
So tell your friends, neighbors and co-workers to "Turn it off" and "Keep it off".
